Comedy about the proverbial genie who comes out of a bottle (a table lamp in this instance) to serve his new master. The only problem is that instead of helping his master, the genie (Burl Ives) tends to get his master (Tony Randall) into more predicaments than he gets him out of.。一个整天梦想当神仙的书生，好逸恶劳，爱读求仙修道之书。一日，他看书入迷，幻觉中自己上了三清观，拜一位老道长为师，学得了穿墙之术。回家后他不顾妻子劝诫，打算以此行窃。结果仙术失灵，书生头上被撞起了一个大包。。
