故事发生在七十年代末期，陈星（梁静 饰）和有为青年陆粞（王学兵 饰）两情相悦，渐渐走到了一起。恢复高考后，陈星为了能够考取理想的大学而开始了艰苦的奋斗，而陆粞却因为家庭成分不好而无缘考试，选择留在了铁路装卸站。对于未来的不同选择让这对恋人之间的感情产生了不易察觉的裂缝。 水香（殷桃 饰）从很久以前开始就爱慕着陆粞，眼看着陈星和陆粞渐行渐远，她趁虚而入，陆粞的不坚定让陈星失望透顶。与此同时，善良单纯的男孩朱亦文（王同辉 饰）一直默默的守护在陈星的身旁，让陈星的内心里产生了动摇。迫于生活和事业的压力，陆粞最终迎娶了上司的妹妹。。One day, thinking that it will make your wife and friends smile, you shave off the moustache that you have had for the last ten years. Viewers who like their conclusions tidy may rebel, but those who relish outstanding performances in the service of an intriguing idea will be entertained.
